Detroit Auto Show: Some c00l Highlights!

Car geeks are certain to get their fill at the Detroit International Auto Show when it opens to the public on Saturday. Carmakers are reacting to the pressure of an uncertain economy, rocketing gas prices, and fears of global warming with new vehicles that are mostly practical and dressed to impress. Here are some of the coolest cars in Detroit that may or may not be passing you on the highway in the next few years. L33tzone has some highlights for its viewers, courtesy of cnet news.

The strangest car on display in Detroit is probably the Chinese-Made Detroit Fish amphibious electric car. The car is a concept from China’s Li Shi Guang Ming Automobile Company. Does it come with a sail?

Even Hummer is touting environmental responsibility with its smallest model yet, the HX. It’s powered by a new V-6 designed to run off ethanol and various ethanol-gasoline blends.

Chevrolet
is introducing the Corvette ZR1, which uses a supercharged 6.2-liter
V-8 engine that will produce 620 horsepower and 595 ft-lbs or torque.
The car is made with carbon body parts to keep the weight down.

Mitsubishi is turning some heads with its Concept-RA that’s equipped with a 2.2-liter clean-burning four cylinder diesel engine.

Audi
took its existing R8 car and replaced the gasoline engine with the V12
TDI engine used in its Le Mans winning race car. According to Car Tech,
Audi is still deciding whether to put it into production.

The Furai, one of Mazda’s Nagare-themed concept cars is a flex-fuel car with a 450-horsepower triple rotary engine.

LRX’s Land Rover concept tries to meet the need for more
environmentally sound cars. This hybrid runs on a 2-liter turbo diesel
engine that is balanced by a hybrid system.

The Dodge Zeo is one of the first concepts from the company after its
recent takeover by Cerberus Holdings. The Zeo is an electric vehicle
with a range of about 250 miles with its lithium-ion batteries.
